Virtually every summer brings a group of travelers touring through parts of Greene County on the old Lincoln Highway.
This summer’s tour is unlike any other. An ox bow wagon train group will make its way from Bouton to Grand Junction this Wednesday, Aug. 10. The group will spend the night at a rural Grand Junction residence, and then take the Lincoln Highway westbound from Grand Junction to Scranton on Thursday. They plan to pass through Jefferson between 10 and 10:30 am.
The group includes about seven horse/mule-drawn wagons and several riders on horseback. A cook travels with the group and cooks from the wagons. In all, there will be about 25 persons in the group.
They’ll spend Thursday night, Aug. 11, at the rural Scranton home of Doug Gibson. County supervisor Dawn Rudolph plans to ride with the group Friday to the Greene/Carroll county line.
Their itinerary calls for an overnight in Glidden at the Romayne Wenck home Friday, and participating in a wagon train ride with the Carroll County Saddle Club Aug. 13-14. They’ll begin the trek back to Bouton Monday following the same route in reverse. They should return eastbound through Jefferson Wednesday, Aug. 17.
According to Rudolph, the group welcomes people to come visit and look at the wagons, horses and mules.
